Memorial Grows For Deceased Motorcyclist

Angelo Varisco did not live in Rockaway and the 25-year-old man was killed on September 22 in Mineola when the motorcycle he was driving veered into the side of a 2005 Lexus with such force that his helmet was knocked off his head. Despite those facts, Varisco's ties to Rockaway are so strong that a memorial built by friends and relatives now stands next door to Ciro's Pizza at 171 Beach 116 Street in Rockaway Park. Varisco's family is part owner of the pizza shop and their son began working there as a youngster and continued to do so until his death two weeks ago. Nassau County Police say that Varisco, who resided in Island Park, was driving his 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle northbound on Herricks Road, just south of Broadway in Mineola when he lost control and struck the Lexus, forcing it to hit another automobile coming in the opposite direction. He was transported to Winthrop University Hospital, where he was declared DOA. His funeral was held on September 29 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Westbury, Long Island.

Varisco's picture adorns the memorial to his death. The young man is survived by his mother and father, Maria and Vincent Varisco and by his two sisters, Donna and Rosie.
