By Erin Baumann

Congratulations to this year's Roxbury residents who were recognized by the Breezy Point Garden Club for their beautiful gardens. The 2006 winners are: Harold and Barbara Prigge at 139 Bayside Avenue, Henry & Margie Kasselbaum at 318 Hillside Avenue, Maureen Walthers at 353 Bayside Avenue, Susan & Frank Fabbricadore at 130 Roxbury Avenue, and Tim & Joan Feimer at 610 1/2 Oceanview Avenue. Please take a look and maybe next year you might be a winner.

The next Saint Genevieve's First Friday Luncheon will be held on November 3rd. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in church with the delicious luncheon to follow. The tickets are $12 per person. Please call Joanne Norris at 718-634-9087 for reservations. Please come and bring your friends.

On September 20, I was asked to participate in the 2006 Celebration on the Hill with the American Cancer Society in Washington D.C. Approximately 10,000 people from across the United States came together to lobby their Senate and Congressional leaders. Each leader was asked to sign a promise that they would reauthorize and fund to capacity the breast and cervical programs and to also agree to a 5% increase in cancer research each year for the next five years. The budget up for approval is asking to cut $40 million from the cancer research. This will be the second cut in two years and the American Cancer Society fears that it will result in a reversal of the advances it has already made. The purpose of the event was to let Congress know that another decrease can not happen. It is an important cause that too many of us share and an experience I will never forget.

Happy Birthday Wishes go out to: Heather McMahon ~ September 23, Jake McMahon ~ September 27.
