Rockaway Cadets Give Thanks To Summer Baseball Season
The Rockaway Cadets, which consists of our local 15 and 16 year old boys, ended their season with a barbecue at Fort Tilden, hosted by their coach Richie Knott and assistant coaches John Ameruso and Bob Alessi.
The boys had a great season playing over 50 games all summer long. They all stayed focused and did a great job of applying what they learned all year on defense, hitting and pitching. The boys made it all the way to the semifinals of the Kings Plaza- Marine Park League.
There was great all around team effort by the Cadets. Excellent pitching was performed by Eric Maxfield, Michael Knott, Joe Foecina, Mark Chiusano (Squints) and Brian Jorge by holding the other teams to a minimum of hits. Matt Alessi did an outstanding job at first base along with our second baseman Kenny Fiorentino and Brian Schatz.
Incredible defense was led by our third baseman John Ameruso.
Our outfielders Nick Mohr, Chris Scheriff and Chris Kaufher played the outfield like pros. Matt Knott did a fine job of catching at homeplate. All these boys played with pride, poise and sportsmanship. However, the real heart and soul of this team goes to our head coach Richie Knott.
Richie did an outstanding and masterful job coaching these boys. Every weekend, Richie gave up his time to coach these boys and encourage them to do their best. He taught out boys how to play, but his most important lesson was to have fun whether you win or lose.
He made sure all the boys (also thanks to Bernadette Maxfield) for having a ride to and from all the games safely. The kids were ready to play, rain or shine and it showed an incredible spirit for helping to teach the boys on how bout to win and to be part of a team.
