Peanut Shamrocks Stay Tough With Road Victory

By Mike Malsy

The Shamrocks traveled to Bayville for a 6 p.m. game against the Falcons. The Shamrocks were short 5 players due to illness and prior commitments so the coaches knew they were in for a battle.

The game opened with nice runs by the Shamrocks Matt Ostrander, Steven Kenny, Anthony Cimino, Charlie Bostwick and Luke Hanning. Starting QB Cameron Manzi and the offensive line of Brian McNulty, Michael Henglein, Center Johnny Walsh, Brian Bostwick and Charlie Bostwick got the ball rolling.

On a 4th and 9 from the Falcons 29, Charlie Bostwick ran off tackle for a 15 yard gain. Matt Ostrander followed with a nice 6 yard run setting up a 2nd and 4 from the 8 yard line. Luke Hanning ran a power sweep and scored for his first TD of the season.

The Shamrock defense opened up with a fury. The Starting line of Liam Malsy, Danny Clark, James Carson and Charlie Bostwick, LB's Steven Kenny, Anthony Cimino and Safeties Matt Ostrander and Luke Hanning were ready for business. Charlie Bostwick made 2 solo tackles including a sack on the Falcon's 1st drive.

The Falcons would bounce back and scored to tie the game at 6. The Shamrock Offense took over with 6 minutes left in the half. Anthony Cimino started the drive with a 30 yard run, followed by nice runs by Steven Kenny and Matt Ostrander. On a third down and eight from the 11 yard line. Anthony Cimino ran a sweep and fell about 2 inches short of the end zone as time expired in the 1st half.

The Shamrock Defense opened the third quarter as Steven Kenny's sack and loss of yardage forced a Bayville punt. On a 4th and 10 came in a blitz and landed a big hit to stop the Falcon drive. The Offense sprinted onto the field and Charlie Bostwick broke several tackles for 20 yard run. Anthony Cimino took the next handoff following lead blocker Johnny Walsh and scampered 40 yards for his second TD of the season and a Shamrock 12-6 lead. The defense stopped the Falcon running game as Charlie Bostwick, Danny Clark, James Carson, Liam Malsy, Brian Bostwick, Michael Henglein and Brian McNulty ended a fourth quarter drive.

The Shamrocks' Liam Malsy ran a sweep for 15 yards to start an important drive. Charlie Bostwick, Matt Ostrander and Liam Malsy continued to pound the football setting up a 1st and 10 from the Falcon 30. Anthony Cimino dropped back and threw a perfect spiral to Cameron Manzi, who turned up field for a 20 yard pass play.

Bostwick took the next handoff following tremendous blocks by Michael Henglein, Johnny Walsh, Cameron Manzi, Brian Bostwick, Brian McNulty and sprinted 10 yards for his 2nd TD of the season. The defense came onto the field determined to stop a last second Falcon comeback and did just that as time expired on a 18-6 win.
