BCAC Midget Shamrocks Nudge Levittown In Home Opener

By Head Coach Gene Guttieri

Opening Day last Saturday night was full of balloons, parents, grandparents and friends as they all came to see the new BCAC field and show support. It was the excitement of the game that brought the BCAC Midgets here and we could hardly wait. The Shamrocks received the ball first on their opening drive. It was RB Eddie Hoff running off the right tackle for a 55 yard touchdown with some nice blocks from Will Kazmierczuk, John Meringolo, Kenny McGowan, Matt Marketti and Eamonn Gavigan. The extra point was no good.

With the Shamrocks on defense, the Levittown team played tough. They drove the ball down the field and scored the extra point to take a 7 -6 lead into the half

Starting the second half, the BCAC defense of Phil Jannis who led the way with two sacks, Vinny Spirito -3sacks, Paul Rayder, Ray Henry, Carmine Criscione, Sean O' Connor, Evan Riviere, Luke Schriener came up big. The Shamrocks got the ball figuring to use the ball control they ran off tackle with key blocks from ends Charlie Gavigan, Chris Moussa Mike Abrams and Tom Kelly, as Ed Hoff scampered for an 8 yard TD and went up 12-7.

Levittown got the ball went down the field and scored to lead the game 13-12 with seven minutes left in the 4th quarter.

The Shamrocks got the ball on their own 40 yard line. With blocks from Joey Mure, Jeffrey Manzi and a tired offensive line, Broad Channel went back to work. The Shamrocks turned to workhorse Ed Hoff who continued his great day in running for another 8 yard touchdown run to make the score 18-13 for the Shamrocks.

The BCAC defense came out one last time and held Levittown scoreless. Chris Manfre, Andrew Conklin, Billy Collins, Paulie Yodice made key tackles. Mike Perrotto- had a QB sack and Logan Conroy played a great on the defensive line as the Shamrocks won 18-13

The Shamrocks have a 3-0 record as their next game will be on Sunday as they host Glen Cove Red, who is also 3-0, at 1pm.

I would like to thank all the parents and players for getting the field ready. It was a great weekend. Thanks also to Nick Berardino- and Russell Lawson, who helped out as well.
