Fans Welcome Rockaway Ravens In Homecoming Football Day

By T. Charles

What a phenomenal event!!! Several hundred eager and enthusiastic fans gathered together to view six divisions of Rockaway Ravens hard-hitting football at Far Rockaway High School. The opponent on each level last Saturday was the Abyssinian Crusaders, an organization based in Harlem.

We began the day with our youngest division, the Mighty Mites. An epic battle was fought, but in the end our team lost by the score 13-6. The second game was a glorious victory winning by 13-6!!!

Our Jr. Pee Wees, won with an offensive onslaught of aerial bombs and fantastic trick plays. The third game was a display of superior coaching and athletes with a blowout victory by our Pee Wees winning 59-0. At halftime, the Lady Ravens gave a dazzling show which sparked energy and excitement throughout the crowd and inspired a spirit uplifting "chicken noodle soup" dance contest. The final game on Saturday was played by the Jr. Midgets it was a defensive struggle which ended in a loss 6-0.

The games continued the following day with an astounding victory by our undefeated Midgets 26-0. Lastly, we closed out our weekend with a lost by our Intermediates. They played a good game, but were overcome by last years BAYFC champions by the score 21-0. In all it was a wonderful weekend which stirred emotions, built friendships and enhanced the life skills in all who participated in any way. More games will be played next weekend, and we hope to see you there at Far Rockaway High.
