Flt. 587 Memorial Shapes Up As Anniversary Nears

The memorial for victims of American Airlines Flight 587 is quickly taking shape on the south end of Beach 116 Street as its anticipated unveiling date of November 12, the fifth anniversary of the crash, approaches. Workers from Ciot Tecnica, a Canadian construction company and A. Ottavino stone suppliers have been making progress that can be noted on a daily basis.

Workers follow a detailed schematic and can be heard calling out reference measurements for the various stones. A crane is then used to lift the appropriate stone to the installation area.
