Boy, 9, Shot In Home Invasion

John Romano Jr.John Romano Jr. A 9-year-old boy from Far Rockaway underwent surgery this week after he was shot in the head during a home invasion that took place at a relative's house in nearby Inwood, Long Island.

John Romano Jr., a student at Public School 43, suffered a gunshot wound to the head late Saturday night, September 24, when three intruders burst into his cousin's home, pulled guns and told everyone to get down on the ground, according to published reports. The boy's uncle reportedly pulled his own weapon and gunfire rang out in the home.

Romano was shot in the eye and the bullet reached his brain. He was fighting for his life this week with his parents by his side at Schneider's Children's Hospital.

Nassau County Police arrested a man who turned up at Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn with a gunshot wounds shortly after the shooting. Newsday reported this week that homicide investigators recovered evidence that links the unidentified man to the crime scene.
