St. John's Episcopal Hospital raised $37,000 last weekend at its Ocean Walk 2006 event to benefit the facility's OB/GYN department.

"We have big plans to re-do the OB/GYN departments to offer first rate [care] to our patients," said Dr. Jerald Korman, the head of the department.

Luis Hernandez, SJEH's CEO, said, "We have a lot of improvements to make to the hospital ... to be able to serve our large community."

Speaking for the Development Board of the hospital, which put the walk together, Reva Oliner said, "We are working together to create a beautiful OB/GYN Center."

With a Hunter Ambulance bringing up the rear and the assistance of the community affairs of the 101 Precinct, 75 people participated in the walk.

After a short ceremony, the group headed down Beach 20 Street, toward Seagirt Boulevard and turned onto the boardwalk at Beach 23 Street and walked to Beach 40 Street and then headed back to St. John's.

Hunter Ambulance and the Tate Medical Center headed a list of 17 sponsors for the event.
