Life Center Celebrates Tenth Anniversary
The Monsignor Ferris Life Center located at 204 Beach 116 Street (2nd floor) will be celebrating its tenth anniversary at Russo's On The Bay in Howard Beach on Thursday evening, September 28.
Some last minute individual seating and group tables are still available for the gala: $60 for adults / $30 for teens.
The honorees will be the Long Island Chapter of the Knights of Columbus and the Columbiette Auxiliaries.
The goal of the Life Center is to assist unwed mothers in need. The Center hopes that those in crisis from any faith will choose life for their babies. A warm welcome and material assistance awaits those who arrive during office hours which are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from noon until 4:00 p.m. Part of the Life Center's mission is to assist those women and men who may have chosen abortion in the past and now suffer from post abortion regrets. The phone number for the Life Center is (718) 634-BABY... [634-2229].
This Rockaway based pro-life charity is named after a Catholic priest who once served the western end of the Rockaway Peninsula. Monsignor Richard Ferris was pastor at St. Genevieve's from 1989 until his passing on April 21,1996.
Prior to his pastorate in Roxbury, Monsignor Ferris dedicated twentyfive years of his priesthood to the teaching of Catholic theology at St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn. One of his students in the 1980's was Rockaway resident Jerry Cronin. "Monsignor Ferris was simply a very special priest and a great friend," said Cronin. "It brings me great joy to help women and babies in need along with honoring a priest who made such a big difference in my life."
