PHC To Honor Outstanding Surgeon At Ball
Moo Young Jun, M.D. has been an attending surgeon at Peninsula Hospital Center for more than 30 years and will be honored by Peninsula Hospital Center at its upcoming 99th Anniversary Ball, which will be held at The Sands in Atlantic Beach.
Dr. Jun considers himself a "solo practitioner" and maintains private practices in both Brooklyn and Lawrence.
His specialty is head and neck surgery and he is certified by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Jun will be honored by his colleagues, friends and family next month when he will receive the Outstanding Physician Award at Peninsula Hospital Center's annual gala.
Anative of South Korea, Dr. Jun received his medical degree at Kyung Pook University Medical School. Following his service as a Medical Officer in Vietnam in 1966, he went on to complete his internship, residency and surgical residency at Brookdale Hospital Center.
From there, Dr. Jun completed a Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
Dr. Jun has been a Clinical Assistant Professor at Downstate Medical School since 1976. Presently, Dr. Jun is an attending surgeon on the staff of other local hospitals, however, it is at Peninsula Hospital Center that Dr. Jun feels most at home. Peninsula Hospital Center, according to Dr. Jun, offers him the most supportive administration and has by far, the best anesthesiologists and surgical teams. He calls the surgical nursing staff "fabulous" and considers them his extended family. "There isn't another place I know where the staff works as hard and is always trying to exceed their past performances like they do at Peninsula Hospital Center," said Dr. Jun.
Dr. Jun is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Medical Association, the New York State Medical Society, the New York Head and Neck Society and the American Society of Head and Neck Surgeons.
Dr. Jun has two grown children who are attorneys and proudly boasts three grandchildren. He and his wife, Young- Hae, reside in Rockville Centre.
In addition to Dr. Jun, the Hospital Center will also be honoring Steven Greenberg and Michael Melnicke, both members of the Board of Directors, who will receive Outstanding Trustee Awards.
The Community Service Award will be given to Daniel F. Mundy, Chairman, Peninsula Hospital Center's Community Advisory Council.
The theme of this year's gala is, "You've Gotta Have Heart!" - which echoes the overall spirit of the Hospital Center as it moves toward the implementation of its multi-million dollar Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. The 99th Anniversary Ball will be held at The Sands in Atlantic Beach on Saturday, October 28th 2006. Tickets for the ball are available at the Hospital Center's External Affairs Department.
