Addabbo Votes To Override Bloomberg On Gas Prices

The New York City Council, on September 13, voted to override Mayor Michael Bloomberg's veto of the Gas Pricing Bill. The legislation protects car users from gasoline price gouging.

Co-sponsored by Councilman Joseph Addabbo, the law now will automatically go into effect.

Councilman Addabbo stated that," the measure does a public service by prohibiting the raising of gas station fuel prices more than once every twenty-four hours and by insisting that stations don't charge a different price than what is posted on company signage." Consumers are further protected by new standards of record keeping in detailing what is sold at service stations and at what price over a period of time so that the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs can review operations.

"The law is fair and equitable," said Councilman Addabbo," and should have been allowed to go into effect several months ago instead of being held up by a veto action."
