Eighty Stella Maris Lady Flippers campers gathered inside the gymnasium. This past summer, Stella Maris High School hosted its 9th Lady Flipper Girls' Basketball Camp. SM opened its doors and welcomed 80 eager, dedicated, young athletes. The camp staff of 35 was once again duly impressed with the campers' skill level, desire for improvement and overall enthusiasm throughout the week.

Throughout the week, each day is geared to a general skill area: shooting, defense, ball handling, passing; moving without the ball and post play. An hour a day is spent on "station" work where specific drills are demonstrated and each camper has an opportunity to perform the drill. Then the players participate in 2 league games where they incorporate their new and/or improved skill into a team concept.

The entire Lady Flippers Camp also enjoyed Papa's Pizza Day. Papa's courteous, prompt and piping-hot delivery was always appreciated!

Besides being a week filled with fun, hard work and enthusiastic players SM's camp has also become an alumnae reunion of sorts. This year, 40 campers had Alumnus ties of some form.

Most are daughters of alum but SM also welcomes nieces, cousins and granddaughters. The Camp culminates with Championship Day and the Camper Acknowledgment Ceremony.

This fall marks the introduction of High Impact Basketball to Stella Maris. The mini-camps are geared toward preparing players for their upcoming seasons. Girls (3rd thru 5th grade) kick off on September 23rd and 24th.

Then girls (grades 6th thru 8th) take to the court on September 29th and October 1st. And, on October 7th and 8th, boys (grades 3rd thru 6th) will be welcomed into SM for their session.

Enrollment for each session is limited to 24 players. Please call Stella Maris at 718-634-4994 for more details on availability.
