By Head Coach Gene Guttieri

The smell of the freshly cut grass and the nerves of the starting the first game of NSFL season was when the BCAC Shamrock Midgets players knew that the football season to begin.

And it all started out well on the opening drive. The offensive line of Kenny McGowan, Will Kazmierczuk, John Meringolo, Eammonn Gavigan, and Russell Lawson were superb in blocking all day.

The first score went to the Midgets when Eddie Hoff made a 23 yd touchdown run. QB Paulie Yodice threw a pass to complete the extrapoint to Charlie Gavigan.

The defense stymied the Oyster Bay offense all day through the efforts of Vinny Spirito, Sean O' Connor, Paul Rayder, Matt Marketti, Carmine Criscione, Luke Schreiner, Mike Perrotto and Evan Riviere.

Then the Shamrocks struck again with a 13 yd. td run by Chris Manfre to make it 13-0 at the half. The defense made Oyster Bay fumble on a big hit by Phil Jannis as the ball was recovered by teammate Sean O' Connor. The Shamrocks drove down the field with great blocks by Joey Mure and Jeffrey Manzi at wide receiver. Mike Abrams was a force all over the field on defense and rushed for 30 yards on 4 carries.

The shamrocks scored again with Eddie Hoff going in on a 11 yd TD run to make it 19-0.

The key players on defense to end the game were: Rob O'Shaughnessy, Tom Kelly, Andrew Conklin, Billy Collins, Chris Moussa, who had a great sack, Raymond Henry, and Logan Conroy, who all had great games for their first time playing in the field. It was a great first game for the shamrocks who dominated the whole game. The next Midgets game is at North Babylon Blue on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
