Youth Take On Far Rockaway Beach Cleanup

Councilman Sanders and the Boost Mobile RockCorps initiated the Beach Cleanup in an effort to promote community service among Rockaway's youth. At the end of the day, an impressive amount of debris was removed from the beach. The motto of the day was "You Have To Give To Get." To echo that motto, beach cleanup participants were rewarded with concert tickets, hosted by Hot 97, at Radio City Music Hall on September 23.

"I would like to give a special thanks to the youth of Far Rockaway, The Boost Mobile Rock Corps and the Parks Department for leaving the community better than they found it. As an environment, I was deeply amazed at the amount of debris removed from the beach by our youth," said Councilman Sanders. "However, this cleanup gave us the best of both worlds. It showed us on one hand we must take better care of our beaches, but it also displayed the dedication and willingness of the youth to make our community a better place."
