Residents Urged To Apply To FDNY

New York City Fire Department Applications are now available at the district office of Councilman James Sanders Jr., located at 2123 Birdsall Avenue in Far Rockaway, in an initiative to recruit personnel and diversify the department.

"I urge all to take advantage of employment with the Fire Department, being that they only hire every four years. Also, with the new diversity initiative that has launched within this department, our community must take advantage of this now," said Councilman Sanders.

To qualify to take the test, applicants must be at least 17 and a half years of age by the end of the application period and must not have reached their 29th birthday to take the examination.

At the date of appointment, the applicant must have a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and:

+15 college semester credits, or

+Full-time U.S. Military Service with an honorable discharge, or

+Six months of full-time, satisfactory paid work experience.

Applicants can apply through October 13, 2006. There is a $30 application fee payable by money order only. The anticipated date of the test is Saturday, January 20, 2007.
