A consortium of three local civic and service organizations have teamed up with City Councilman James Sanders, Jr. (who represents the eastern end of the peninsula in the City Council) to produce a "MapGuide" brochure designed to showcase local businesses, community groups and attractions in a "user-friendly map, advertisements and directory."

The MapGuide will be distributed free as an insert with next week's Wave at newsstands and to subscribers.

"This map is an important addition to promoting the Rockaways and the many businesses that serve our community," City Councilman Sanders says. "Most importantly, as the face of the Rockaways continues to change, it gives community groups and politicians the opportunity to showcase the diversity surrounding the business districts and the economic strength within that diversity."

The three organizations that teamed with Sanders on this the MapGuide project, The Rockaway Chamber of Commerce, the Rockaway Development and Revitalization Corporation and Margert Community Corporation, plan to publish an initial run of 75,000 of the maps, which will be stocked at local businesses and "throughout the region."
