Brenke, Mayorga Named Top Peninsula Hospital Center Employees
Six months into its Employee of the Month program, Peninsula Hospital Center and Peninsula Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation (PCECR) are still coming up with outstanding employees who have been singled out by their peers as a "cut above." Rosa Brenke is a Phlebotomist Technician at the Hospital Center and has been working in the same job for more than 33 years.
A native of Nicaragua who received her professional training in Panama, Brenke moved straight to the United States after graduation. At the tender age of 20, she joined the ranks of the dedicated employees of Peninsula Hospital Center marking her first, and only, job in her adult career.
Brenke and her husband, Hans, live in the Lawrence area of Five Towns. They have three sons: Alex, Eric and Hans.
According to a hospital spokesperson, Brenke's co-workers in the laboratory praise her for the exceptional care she demonstrates while working with patients, while her colleagues throughout the health facility respect her professionalism and her take-charge attitude. She is so highly thought of by the patients who frequent the lab that they often call in advance to make sure that Brenke is working before they schedule an appointment to have their blood drawn. Tough when the job calls for it, Brenke acts professionally in the most stressful situations. On the other hand, she is soft spoken and her caring demeanor is a comfort to anyone who comes in contact with her.
Although Paula Mayorga has only been employed at PCECR for four years, she has certainly left her mark on the health facility. Mayorga knows everyone and everyone knows her. Her position as the Secretary of the Human Resources Department requires a pleasant personality, the highest degree of professionalism and confidentiality, and the ability to be even-handed. She is well known for her dedication to the job and for the respect with which she deals with all the varied individuals and organizations that come in contact with the Human Resources Department.
Mayorga is definitely a "front-office" type of gal, a hospital spokesperson says. She is intelligent, attractive and knowledgeable, with a 24/7 smile and a helping hand for all in need.
Her peers who nominated her as the August Employee of the Month praise her resourcefulness, enthusiasm, and empathy towards her coworkers. Everyone who knows Paula agrees that she is a pleasure to be around, but those that know her best are treated to her unique sense of humor and charismatic charm on a daily basis.
According to Mayorga's supervisors, they are at a loss whenever she is not in the office. As the department secretary she has her hand in just about everything that is going on in Human Resources. She handles the front office contact with union personnel, staffs the Perfect Attendance Awards and the Annual Service Awards celebrations and serves as personal secretary to the Vice President of the department. Mayorga plays a major part in a that plays a very important part in the administration of the Hospital Center. Her zest for life is contagious. One cannot be around her and do anything other than share in her good nature.
Mayorga came to PHC from Mount Sinai Medical Center where she was employed as an Administrative Assistant in the Pediatric Department. She has a 19-year old daughter who is presently attending college in Florida. She and her husband, Hugo, reside in Woodhaven.
