Rockaway Fisheads Gear Up For Rugby Fall Season

All Hail to the Fisheads as Rockaway's own rugby team begins their 2006 fall schedule. The season will begin on September 16 with their game against arch-rival Montauk Rugby Football Club, who tied with the Fisheads for first place last season in the Metro New York Rugby Football Union. Everyone is welcome to cheer on the home team at Fort Tilden starting at 1 p.m.

On September 23, the Union Mud Turtles, the third team tied atop the standings of the Rugby Union will host the Fisheads at 1 p.m.

Team Captain Jim Egan predicts big things will occur for his Fisheads this season. He has increased his own personal workout regimen and is at the point where he resembles a young Kevin McGack.

"My six-pack is now an 8 pack," Egan, the world renowned rugby specialist, said.

Rockaway Rugby's fall schedule includes: A home matchup with Princeton RFC on September 30, an away game at Red Bank, New Jersey with Monmouth RFC on October 7, a return to Fort Tilden against the Morris Lions RFC on October 14.

On October 21, Montclair Norseman RFC will be the host, the Fisheads travel to the Bronx to take on the Old Blue Bulls RFC on October 28 and the Village Lions RFC will travel to Fort Tilden on November 4 for the final regular season game.

Practice has begun and continues every Thursday night at 7 p.m. under the lights at Fort Tilden.
