SJEH Announces Rev. Harvey's Retirement
The Rev. Dr. Joel Harvey, Vice President for Pastoral Care and Education at Episcopal Health Services Inc., recently retired. During his nine-year tenure at St. John's Episcopal Hospital, Father Harvey initiated numerous programs and touched the lives of many in the Rockaways and around the world. Together with Rev. Dr. Richard Liew, Director of Pastoral Care Education at St. John's, they grew the Pastoral Care Education Program, serving clergy and laity in the United States and establishing programs in Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Italy, the Caribbean and Africa, and even one in the Bedford Hills maximum security prison for women. Several years ago, Father Harvey established St. John's Bereavement Program. Originally begun for counseling children and youth of the Rockaways stricken by loss, the program was extended to include adults because of the need for treating the entire family. Father Harvey and his family have relocated to Williamsburg, Virginia. Pictured, Father Harvey, left, holds the certificate of service presented to him by Luis A. Hernandez, Chief Executive Officer, St. John's Episcopal Hospital, South Shore.
