Bravest Battle Boat Blaze

Firefighters battle a raging fire that destroyed a boat Wednesday afternoon in Edgemere. The unoccupied boat, a 30 to 35-foot cabin cruiser, was docked at a rundown marina on Beach 47 Street and Norton Avenue. Firefighters had to cut through a fence to gain access to the marina, as the flames consumed the topside of the boat and a thick stream of black smoke - visible for miles - poured into the sky (inset), witnesses said. There were no reported injuries and it was unclear at press time what started the blaze, according to the FDNY. Photo by Brian Magoolaghan; inset photo by Curt Krakowski.
