Fun, food and information is promised for Family Day in the Rockaways at O'Donohue Park on September 9.

The event - hosted by State Senator Malcolm Smith and co-hosted by MetroPlus, The Port Authority Of New York/New Jersey and over 30 civic groups and organizations from the Rockaway area - will include loads of fun for children and adults.

A free barbecue, games for the children, face painting, as well as popcorn, ice cream and giveaways will highlight the day. In addition, free health screenings and representatives from different health organizations, including Dental Express and Queens Hospital, will be available to answer health-related questions.

"I am proud to be part of an event that serves to bring families together in a fun, outdoor setting," said Smith. "Family Day in the Rockaways is a unique opportunity for parents and children to come out and spend an enjoyable day together, and one that definitely should not be missed."

Local political representatives Congressmen Gregory Meeks and Anthony Weiner, Assemblywomen Michele Titus and Audrey Pheffer, Councilmen James Sanders Jr and Joseph Addabbo Jr, and district leaders Lew Simon, Geraldine Chapey and Frank Gulluscio are all co-sponsors of the event.

O'Donohue Park is located on Beach 17 Street and Seagirt Boulevard. The festivities will begin at 10 am and go to 6 pm.
