VNS Seeks Volunteers For Hospice Program

The Visiting Nurse Service of New York Hospice Care (VNSNY) in Queens is seeking volunteers to provide supportive services to terminally ill patients in the borough.

Volunteers, according to VNS, are the heart of hospice. They help by offering non-medial services, such as visiting a patient, providing companionship, shopping and running errands, preparing meals, taking walks with the patient or family member; listening to patient's stories, relieving caregivers and providing bereavement support to family members following the death of a loved one.

Volunteers also provide administrative support in the VNS Jackson Heights office on Astoria Boulevard. There is a free VNSNY shuttle from the Roosevelt Avenue/Jackson Heights subway stop.

The next volunteer training session will be on Saturday, September 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the VNSNY main office, 1250 Broadway at 32nd Street in Manhattan.
