RDRC Ends Summer Beacon With Ices Party
RDRC's "Beacon Program Summer Camp" came to an end on August 25, but not before the youths were surprised with a pleasant treat. Seth Brenner, owner and creator of "Scooter's Real Italian Ices" came to PS/MS 42, with his truck and served his product to more than 100 campers. The excited campers and staff had a choice of over 14 flavors to choose from. RDRC's Beacon Program is one of 88 citywide "Beacon" Programs first established in 1991 through New York City's "Safe Street, Safe City" legislation as a "safe haven" for community youths. The Beacon Program is designed to be the focal gathering point for community service organizations which are able to utilize space, resulting in the integration of services to the community.
