Thirty-Three Apprenticeships Available

A total of 33 new apprenticeships are now available, State Labor Commissioner Linda Angello announced today.

Eight roofer apprenticeships will be available through the United Union of Roofers and Waterproofers Joint Apprenticeship Committee, Local 154; and 25 drywall taper apprenticeships will be available through the Painters and Allied Trades Joint Apprenticeship and Training Fund, District Council 9.

Recruitment for the roofer/waterproofer apprenticeships will be conducted from September 1, 2006 through February 28, 2007. Applications will be available at Local 154, located at 370 Vanderbilt Motor Parkway, Suite 1, Hauppauge, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday to Thursday, excluding holidays. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age; have a high school or equivalency diploma; have transportation to and from work sites; and take a physical examination, paid by the sponsor, prior to beginning work. Applications for the 25 drywall taper apprenticeships will be available at the Painters and Allied Trades Joint Apprenticeship and Training Fund, District Council 9, 45-15 36 Street, Long Island City, beginning Monday August 28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until 50 applications have been issued. Applicants must be 18 years or older; have a high school or equivalency diploma; be physically able to do the work; and attend a three-day orientation.
