Jet-Skier Hits Obstacle, Airlifted To Hospital

A still-unidentified Rockaway man who was riding his personal watercraft in the inlet between Beach 3 Street and the Atlantic Beach Bridge on Saturday reportedly hit an underwater obstacle and was thrown from his jet ski into the water. Police officers and fire units from both New York City and Nassau County responded to the emergency because it occurred right on the border between the two venues. First in the water to pull the man out were firefighters from the FDNY, followed closely by divers from the NYPD's harbor unit.

The unidentified man who had been on the watercraft was taken by EMS ambulance to a waiting NYPD helicopter and transported to the Nassau County Medical Center in Hempstead. Two New York City EMT's, Brenda Jones and Tommy McCarthy accompanied the man on his flight.
