Today's Historical View should bring back many fond memories of a day at the beach in Rockaway. We all know the state of being oblivious to all and everything around us, while being in the physical embrace of a sweetheart, either in the surf or on a blanket over the sand.

The situation brings to mind the beach scene in the movie "From Here To Eternity" when Burt Lancaster and Deborah Karr kissed and embraced ardently while being deluged by a heavy wave. It didn't faze them...remember guys and gals?

There were times when a lifeguard frantically blew his whistle at an interlocked couple who were getting too close to a wooden jetty or a rock groin!

This particular Life Publishing Company postcard was issued by the great Detroit Publishing Company in 1901, and was mailed to a girl named Ruth, no doubt by her beau, as a reminder of their journey into oblivion! Aren't sweet memories better than dreams!

You bet your bippie they are!
