Two men - one of them armed with a handgun - robbed a check cashing establishment in Rockaway Park on Thursday morning, police said.

The armed duo struck Alivad Associates, located at 114-17 Rockaway Beach Boulevard, shortly after 8 a.m., according to police sources. The men entered the check casher, flashed the weapon and told the clerk behind the counter to hand over all of the cash on hand.

The man with the gun took an undisclosed sum of money, and the two reportedly ran to a black Acura automobile and fled the area.

Police said the men were both about 6-feet tall. One was wearing a red baseball cap pulled down to hide his face, and the other had a white towel wrapped around his head and face.

Police from the 100 Precinct quickly responded to the scene and reported the description of the men and the car to other precinct units as well as to officers in the 101 Precinct in Far Rockaway and the 106 Precinct in Howard Beach.

Police cars fanned out looking for the Acura and the two men, but the search came up empty. Local police detectives joined crime scene technicians in the search for evidence at Alivad.

Alivad operates several other check cashing locations in Brooklyn. A clerk at Alivad's Rockaway Park location declined to comment for this story.

Detectives from the 100 Precinct Squad and from the Queens Robbery Squad continued their investigation as The Wave went to press. Anyone with information is asked to call the 100 Precinct Squad at (718) 318-4221 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
