K Of C To Host Vascular Screenings
Life Line Screenings Radiology staff will be on hand at the Far Rockaway Knights of Columbus Council #2672 offering complete vascular screenings on Tuesday, August 29.
"About half of the persons with significant carotid stenosis do not show any symptoms before they have a major stroke. The stroke itself is the first symptom. We cannot wait for symptoms to occur before we diagnose and treat," explained Dr. J Crayton Pruitt, M.D., F.A.C.S. Strokes are the third leading cause of death, and rank second among women.
Screenings are a necessary precaution in reducing the risk of having a stroke. The ultrasound screenings require only ten minutes or less to complete and check for blocked arteries, aortic aneurysms, and hardening of arteries in the legs. Also available will be a bone density screening to predict osteoporosis. A complete vascular screening package will be available as well, which includes the stroke/cartoid artery, abdominal aortic aneurysm, ankle brachial index, and osteoporosis screenings.
The Knights Of Columbus is located at 333 Beach 90 Street. Screening appointments begin at 9 a.m on August 29. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call (877) 237-1344. Pre-registration is required.
