'Cave-In' Eats Cone, Is Your Tire Next?
A roadway cave-in in the westbound lane on Beach Channel Drive at Beach 136 Street has been growing for about a month, according to Wave reader Charles Cheswick, who reported the condition to 311, the city's non-emergency response line, on August 4.
The cave-in has been gobbling up trash and even an entire traffic cone during its unabated growth spurt.
"There should be a plate on it and a light at night," said Cheswick, who fears some unlucky motorist will clip the gape and have an accident.
A 311 operator told The Wave that inspectors visited the site last week and noted that the catch basin needs replacement, but she was unsure how long it would be before the work took place.
