Middleweight Champion Bows Out ofVegas Fight
The first setback for middleweight boxing champion John Duddy did not occur inside the ring but outside of the arena.
Originally scheduled to fight on August 10 at the Orleans Hotel and Casino, the undefeated fighter has pulled out of his bout with Carlos Bojorquez due to heat prostration and dehydration. The announcement was made last Tuesday by the Irish Ropes Boxing Promotion based out of Arverne.
The raging temperatures that have inflicted New York City the past few weeks played a huge part in Duddy's training regimen.
Irish Ropes advisor Jim Borzell said in a press release that because the heat affected Duddy's training and his health, doctors had advised the middleweight to postpone his fight.
"John is disappointed for his fans expecting the Vegas fight," added Borzell, "but there is no way he could be ready to go on August 10. We look forward to a big fall fight in September in New York for John."
The 17-0 fighter is still on tap to headline his second fight at Madison Square Garden on September 29 against former lightweight and middleweight champion Yory Boy Campas.
The fight against Campos, who hasn a 88-8 record will be fought at the Theatre At Madison Square Garden.
