St. John's Hospital Hosts Blood Drive

St. John's Episcopal Hospital South Shore will be hosting a blood drive on Thursday, August 3 for anyone who wishes to give the gift of life.

"Donating blood can make an immediate and life-saving difference to the lives of others," said John Boyle, PhD, Director of the Hospital's Laboratory Services and Chairperson of the Hospital's blood drive. "Without donors, the community - and the Hospital - would not have an adequate blood supply. Blood, like milk, is perishable, and is in constant need of supply," added Boyle.

SJEH requires that donors are at least 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds, and are in good health. Anyone 16 years old wishing to donate blood must present written parental or guardian's consent and also weigh a minimum of 110 pounds.

Those 75 years or older wishing to donate must meet all donor criteria and present a physician's letter of consent.

The blood drive will take place in the Hospital's Boardroom, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Hospital is located at 327 Beach 19 Street in Far Rockaway.
