The Laurence Pump vs. George's Florist Rockaway Little League Major Girls play-off game on July 2nd was nothing short of phenomenal.

The first inning had Francis Amodeo, Erin Tacopina and Catherine Murphy punch out a single each, all to be driven in by Annette Scotto's grand slam homer into deep center.Immediately thereafter, Becky Resner iced the cake with a solo shot to deep right center, giving Laurence a 5-0 lead.

The 2nd inning had Kyra Meli pick up a walk and give a great demonstration of the art of base stealing, as she stole all three bases to score.Pauline O'Shea scored on a single, two stolen bases and an R.B.I. single by Bridget Grogan. "Cat" Murphy pitched the first two, and along with Kyra Meli at short, Frances Amodeo at 2nd and Annette Scotto at 1st, held George's scoreless. Taylor Conroy did the relief for the next two, giving up only one run.

Laurence and George's both went scoreless in the third but the Laurence bats wreaked havoc in the 4th.Lauren Houck led off with a triple, followed by Kyra Meli's R.B.I. triple.Bridget Lonnborg's R.B.I. homer followed.Taylor Conroy cinched the inning with a solo shot. The final score was 11-1 and Laurence was off to the Championship!

The championship game was played three days later, July 5th, against Walsh Properties. The "Amazing" Laurence Pump girls came to the field in high gear.

"Cat" Murphy pitched a one hit, no run game.

The defensive plays by Cat Murphy, Annette Scotto, Marissa Scotto, Kyra Meli, Taylor Conroy, Becky Resner, Mary Ameruso, Erin Tacopina and Frances Amodeo were nothing short of amazing; of course Pauline O'Shea, as catcher proved herself as an admirable opponent.

The Laurence bats and base running were terrific as the team racked 8 hits, 3 homeruns, and 8 walks. Every girl contributed to the 11 runs scored. The homers were courtesy of Taylor Conroy in the 2nd and Annette Scotto in the 2nd and 4th.

Walsh's infield showed some sure gloves, but it wasn't enough against the Laurence bats; final score 11-0. Laurence finished with an 11 and 1 first place record and The Rockaway Little League Major Girls championship!

An awards ceremony will be held in the very near future, (after Judith Wanderer returns from camp). Congratulations to a great team, wonderful parents and coaches!
