30 Iron Worker Apprenticeships Available

New York State Labor Commissioner Linda Angello has announced the United Derrickman and Riggers Association, Local 197, will begin recruiting for 30 iron (stone derrickman and rigger) worker apprenticeships on July 17.

Applications will be available at Local 197, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to noon, from July 17 through July 21, or until 150 applications have been filled, whichever comes first. Local 197 is located at 25-19 43rdAvenue in Long Island City.

Local 197 requires that applicants be at least 18 years old; have a high school or equivalency diploma; take an aptitude test; be interviewed by the local's Joint Apprenticeship Committee; pay a $15 non-refundable application fee; and sign an affidavit saying they are physically able to do the work.
