Big Apple Games Start At Beach Channel

The Big Apple Games is a free summer recreational program that will be held at Beach Channel High School starting on July 5 which gives schoolchildren the opportunity to take part in a number of activities during the summer months.

Starting on July 5 and ending on August 17, the New York City Department of Education and the Public School Athletic League will offer students from grades 5 through 12 the chance to get active in numerous programs. The program operates from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. with an evening session occurring from 6 to 9 p.m. Students can get involved in the various sports that will be offered such as wrestling, volleyball, basketball, softball, floor hockey, gymnastics and others. Game room activities and arts and crafts will also take place.

A high school football camp, which site offers instruction, weightlifting, conditioning and agility training will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The camp will prepare student-athletes for the rigors of the fall football season.Players who are in grades 9-12 and currently playing high school football in and outside of the peninsula are invited to attend.
