Breezy Point Biathlon Run Benefits Local Firefighter

The Second Annual Breezy Point Biathlon on July 8 will raise funds to benefit the FDNY Family Transport Unit in appreciation for their assistance to Matthew Long and his family.

Matthew Long was a firefighter assigned to Truck 43 in Manhattan who while riding his bicycle to the Fire Department Academy, was struck by a bus on December 22, 2005. The injury, which occurred during the New York City Transit strike, caused numerous operations an extended rehabilitation period. The Breezy Point Biathlon Run The biathlon will be a 1.5 mile run, a 3 mile bike run and a 0.35 mile run will take place at the Sugarbowl in Breezy Point starting at 10 a.m.

There will be a $20 fee to race includes t-shirt, awards and a post race party. There will be a $5 post-race party fee for non-participants.

Bikes must be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. the day of the race at the Gateway Lot (off Reid parking lot South). T-shirts and numbers can be picked up at the Sugarbowl on the day of the race between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. Participants must be 10 years or older to participate and parental signature and consent is required for participants under the age of 18.

If applications can't be picked up, people should include on a piece of paper their name, address, phone #, age and date of birth. Also people must answer if they need a parking pass for the day of the race.
