Two Hundred Fifty Apprenticeships Open
The New York State Department of Labor will be recruiting for 200 elevator/escalator constructor/modernizer and 50 lather (wood, wire, metal) apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Linda Angello announced this week.
The Elevator Constructors Joint Apprenticeship Committee, Local 1, will open recruitment on July 11 for their 200 positions. Applications will be available in person only, at their training center, at 47-24 27 th Street, Long Island City, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 11, 13, 18, and 20, from 9 a.m. to noon. Completed applications must be postmarked by July 31.
The Joint Apprentice Committee for the Metallic Lathers and Reinforcing Ironworkers, Local 46, will open recruitment on July 10 for their 50 positions. Applications will be available at the Metal Lather Learning Center, 61-02 32 nd Ave., Woodside, Monday through Friday, July 10 to July 14, from 9 a.m. to noon. Completed applications must be returned by certified mail.
Local 1 requires that applicants be 18 years or older; have a high school or equivalency diploma; score 70 or better on the aptitude test; pay a $25 testing fee by money order or certified check on the day of the test; have transportation to job sites and training; appear for a personal interview; be physically able to do manual labor; and take a physical exam and drug test after acceptance to the program.
