Support The Troops, Lose Your Parking Spot

Ann West is patriotic. She wants to show her support for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan by flying a flag on the terrace of her apartment at 7800 Shore Front Parkway, in the Dayton East housing complex. Because of her patriotism, however, she may soon lose her coveted parking slot inside the complex grounds. West, whose husband was in the Navy before a career in the NYPD and whose daughter is a cop, received a letter from Dayton Tower's management in November of last year warning her that the rules of the cooperative did not allow for flying any flag but the American Flag. "While we appreciate your display of patriotism, safety is our first concern," the letter from Richard Nardo said. West refused to comply. Last month, she got another letter from Nardo. "Failure to remove the material by June 29,2006 will result in the forfeiture of your parking privileges in addition to an administrative fee," the letter said. West said that she will fight the ban. Nardo did not return calls to his office.
