Emily A. Basher, a lifelong summer resident of Rockaway, died June 21.
Basher, a homemaker and Tarrytown, New York resident for 45 years, was born in Brooklyn. She was a member of the Women's Army Corps (WAC) during World War II. Basher was also Village Trustee in Tarrytown for five and a half years; a resident of Del Ray Beach, Florida; founder of the Breezy Point Women's Golf League; and a longtime volunteer of "The Haven" of Del Ray Beach, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Basher and Frank Gray; and brother, Thomas.
Basher is survived by her sons, William (Kathie Shea), Thomas (Anne Marie), Paul (Kathleen) and James (Maureen); grandchildren, Veronica, Thomas, John, Meghan, Jennifer, James, Owen and Daniel; and two great-grandchildren, Teresa and William Suits.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 23, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 24 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas More Church in Rockaway Point.
Violet Mercedes Grandison
Violet Mercedes Grandison, a Rockaway resident for over 15 years, died June 16. She was 76.
Grandison, a housekeeper, was born on April 29, 1930 in Kingston, Jamaica. She was a member of the First Church of God in Far Rockaway.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent Grandison and Cecelia Walker.
Grandison is survived by her three daughters, Evrett (Lorna) Markland, Barbara Dawkins and AnnMarie Lindsey; grandchildren, Donna, Susanne, Paul, O'Kahari, Tammy, Shadane, Jammie, Ishamar, and Leann; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Lena, Grea (Monica), Merlene (Joyce), Dorothy and Delores; two brothers, Kenneth and Winston; brother-in-law, Kenneth; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home. Visitation was held at First Church of God in Far Rockaway. Interment was at All Saints Cemetery in Great Neck, New York.
John Edward Hall
John Edward Hall, a Rockaway resident for 30 years coming from Sheepshead Bay, died June 19.
Hall, a computer operator for the City of New York, was born in Brooklyn. He was also a local seaport artist.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, James and Hugh.
Hall is survived by his wife, Patricia J. Smith Hall; daughter, Eileen Goldberg; son, Kevin; grandchildren, Christopher, Jamie and Brian; great-grandchildren, Elena, Christopher Jr. and Damien; and sisters, Elizabeth Yeserski and Margaret O'Malley.

Priscilla 'Cilla' Anne

Priscilla Anne Rice-Harris, a Far Rockaway resident for over 35 years, died June 22. She was 47.
Rice-Harris, known as "Cilla," was born on June 29, 1957 in Union, South Carolina. She was a graduate of Far Rockaway High School and attended Queens Community College of Business. Rice-Harris worked as a certified nurses' assistant for Queens Nassau Nursing Home for 22 years. She was also a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Far Rockaway.
Rice-Harris is survived by her parents, Arthur Harris and Lizzie Brown; grandmother, Theodora Williams of North Carolina; sons, James (Aja), Michael and Ernest; grandchild, James "Phoenix" Harris, Jr., born on April 29, 2006; siblings, Viola and Dorothea Harris of New York, Denise Hardy (Melvin), Arthur Jr. (Lisa), Jackie, and Nathaniel of South Carolina; nieces, Melonie, Rasheeda, Lasheena, Taisha, Ebony, Ivory, Takeyla, Shantel, Asia and Queen; five nephews, Jerome, Jamel, Joshua, Antione, and Andre; eight great-nephews; three great-nieces; five aunts; three uncles; and many other relatives and friends.
A service was held at Full Gospel Tabernacle in Far Rockaway. Disposition was at Oxford Hills Crematory in Chester, New York.
Evita Elizabeth Lewis
Evita Elizabeth Lewis, a Rockaway resident for 10 years, died June 15. She was 53.
Lewis, a nurse, was born on May 31, 1953 in Porta Spain, Trinidad.
She is survived by her children, Steven and Ashley; husband, Bert; sister, Gloria Lewis; brother, Alfred Austin; sisters-in-law, Paula, Daphne, Laurette and Laurie; brothers-in-law, Herman, Javon and Ericson; and many other relatives and friends.

Josephine Repetto, a Rockaway resident for 12 years coming from Bensonhurst, died June 18.
Repetto, a paralegal for Gorman and Rankin, PC, was born in Italy. She was also a retired loan manager for Atlantic Bank and a member of St. Francis de Sales parish in Belle Harbor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Repetto.
Repetto is survived by her sister, Diana Tamburinelli; niece, Patricia Gorman (Raymond); and nephew, Errol Tamburinelli.

Christina Speakes, a Rockaway resident for five years, died June 17. She was 50.
Speakes, a market surveyor, was born on March 23, 1956 in Manhattan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nora Diaz and Antonio Moreno.
Speakes is survived by her husband, Larry Speakes; daughters, LaTysha and Alexus Speakes; five grandchildren, Jocelyn, Krysten, Destiny, Isaiah and Dwane Jr.; seven sisters, Nora, Yvonne, Alice, Mary, Nadia, Lourdes and Mildred; special brother, Jose; and many other relatives and friends.

Edith M. Hopkins West, a Rockaway resident for 48 years, died June 19.
West, a secretary for Peninsula Hospital Center, was born in Queens. She served her country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. West was a past commander of the Daniel M. O'Connell Post 272 of the American Legion in Rockaway Beach.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Warner Hopkins and Patrick West; and two great-grandchildren.
West is survived by her sons, Warner Hopkins (Patricia) and Jack Hopkins (Mary Jane); daughter, Frances Wagoner (Howard); sister, Evelyn Peacock; grandchildren, Matthew Hopkins, Margaret Hopkins, Tad Wagoner, Christy Mareshi, Lara Wagoner and Carolyn Jaggers; and two great-grandchildren.
