Pheffer recently accepted a plaque from Commissioner Adrian Benepe of the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation "for outstanding commitment to the development, repair and reconstruction of park projects and programs..."

The award came as the direct result of Assemblywoman Pheffer facilitating the creation of the playground on the beach at Beach 103 Street in Rockaway Park. This is the first beach playground in all of Rockaway, and Assemblywoman Pheffer saw the project through from conception to fruition.

"As the Assemblywoman representing the 23rd A.D. in Queens, I have the opportunity to make our neighborhoods a better place in which to live and work," said Assemblywoman Pheffer. "Providing a safe, enjoyable and innovative play area is one of my goals. I want to thank the Parks Department for their expertise, as well as the assistance of their personnel, in making this park a reality."
