Chatting with Chapey
Congratulations to the 2006 Honorees
The Chapey Trinity Services luncheon at Russo's on the Bay was an overwhelming success. Over 800 people had a wonderful afternoon enjoying Russo's gourmet food, listening to our fabulous DJ, Tom Touhey, and conversing with their friends and neighbors. Pictures from this year's luncheon are displayed on another page. A special thank you to each and every person who served on our committees and each and every person who attended our luncheon. It is through your efforts that we are able to enjoy this wonderful day together.
Congratulations to the West End Temple on the occasion of their 67th annual journal dinner dance. This year they honored outstanding and dedicated individuals: Shirley C. Paris and John and Marie Kimball.
Rabbi Marjorie Slome, in her letter in the Journal, pointed out that "what makes a community strong is the commitment that each person brings to it." She noted, "A community is strong when its institutions are strong. West End Temple, St. Francis de Sales, The Rockaway Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club have all been enriched by the commitment that Shirley Paris and John and Marie Kimball bring to the community."
Marsha Weber, the President of the West End Temple, noted in the Journal, "At this wonderful celebration, we pay tribute to those people who are special members of and supporters of our Temple." She "congratulated our special member Shirley Paris who has been a pillar of support, caring and loyalty to our Temple; and to Marie and John Kimball whose presence we've been privileged to enjoy at so many of our functions." Marsha wished them good health and many years of continued participation.
I also join Marsha Weber in giving a special thank you to Stan and Elaine Gelda. They are a very capable, honorable and dedicated team who work tirelessly to promote the success of the West End Temple and to foster good will in our neighborhood. Congratulations to Elaine Gelda, who was presented with the Exemplary Service Award at the Trinity Services luncheon. Elaine has always been active in the West End Temple, and since her retirement from teaching, she has devoted a great deal of her time to the Temple and its activities. She has worn many hats: member of the Ladies Guild, office volunteer, coordinator of catering special events, and participant in fund raising, including co-chairing the Temple Journal Dinners over the years. She is known in the Temple for her special Oneg Shabbats. Elaine has been instrumental in bringing the Universal Pre-kindergarten Program to the West End Temple in 2001. She is currently the Administrative Director of the program and devotes many hours to ensure that it is working properly. She is very proud of the reputation of this program and of the dedication and efforts of her staff in providing for the needs of the children. Kudos to Elaine and Stan Gelda for their outstanding endeavors.
Shirley Paris was honored for having been an outstanding member of the West End Temple for over fifty years. Shirley and her husband were active members of the Temple and their children, Deanne and Patti, were educated and confirmed there. Shirley dedicated the West End Temple Ark of the Covenant in cherished memory of her husband and one of the beautiful Torahs, and Mantles were a gift of Shirley and Samuel Paris and the Temple Torah Fund.
Shirley has worked tirelessly with the Ladies Guild of West End Temple. Her other activities in the Rockaways include the Garden Club, ORT, Peninsula Hospital, National Council of Jewish Women, Hadassah and many others.
The beautiful Menorah outside the Temple was a special project of Shirley's.
Congratulations to Shirley for her many years of outstanding dedication to the Temple family.
John and Marie Kimball celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss on May 11. The Kimball's own a construction company in which they are still active and have been joined by their son, Fred. John and Marie are very proud of the fact that many of their current customers are the grandchildren of their original customers. This is truly a unique example of satisfied customers. John and Marie are the proud parents of five children and are equally proud of their fifteen grandchildren. John has been very active in the Rotary for 51 years having served twice as President.
He is a leader in the Student Exchange Program and cheerfully hosts youth from oversees. John has been very active in the community and in the district in the scouting program. Kimball Construction was awarded the first prize for Excellence in Construction by the Queens Borough Chamber of Commerce in 1990. The Kimball's enjoyed a wonderful friendship with Rabbi Weiss and his family. Congratulations to the Kimball's on being honored by the West End Temple.
Again, congratulations to the 2006 honorees at the Trinity Services luncheon and the 2006 honorees at the West End Temple Dinner.
