Identifying The 1952 Police Athletic League Champs

Who Are They? Where Are They Now? You Helped

In 1952, more than 54 years ago this summer, the Police Athletic League championship team posed with 100 Precinct officials at the Rockaway Park precinct house. The team was made up primarily of west end teens, but at least two "were drafted from the 101 Precinct in Far Rockaway," according to Howard Harnish, who brought us this photograph. On the Monday after the paper came out, however, a few old-timers, including Pat Robertson, called to help us with some of the identifications. Sitting on the floor in front of the captain's desk are, from left, Eugene Stuttman (presently a CPA living in Nassau County), Bruce Ducker, three still-unidentified youths, Steve Berman (an Art Director with a California firm), Bernie Marks (a retired FDNY firefighter), and Arnold Lesley. Standing, from left, Ronnie Faust, Butch Tartum, Chuck Vogel, Sonny Warren, Precinct Captain William Judge, an unidentified police officer, an unidentified youth, James Nero and another unidentified youth. Perhaps you can help us find the still-unidentified. Give The Wave a call.
