The girls of Laurence Pump Major Softball continued their early season wins on May 9 and May 15.
On Tuesday, May 9, the team, missing two of their experienced players, mustered up some inner strength against Multiple Listing Srvices of Long Island. Laurence went scoreless in the first as did their opponent. In the next three innings, Laurence's bats fired up with nearly every girl coming home. Bridget Grogan was overjoyed to cross the plate for the second time in her first organized season.
Taylor Conroy pitched a fabulous four hit game and allowing only one run. Annette Scotto's grand slam in the second and solo shot in the fourth, helped fuel Laurence as did Rebecca Resner's triple in the third for a 20-1 victory. The game on Monday, May 15 against Flynn and Flynn proved challenging as Flynn came out swinging in the first by scoring and holding Laurence scoreless. Things changed dramatically in the second with singles hit by Pauline O' Shea, Frances Amodeo, Bridget Grogan and Cat Murphy. Marissa Scotto stepped up to the plate and hit a grand glam which gave Laurence a 5-3 lead.
Throughout the game, pitcher Cat Murphy and first baseman Annette Scotto set the tone defensively by deftly fielding popups and turning multiple double plays. Amodeo' nice fielding play in the seventh inning clinched a 13-8 victory for Laurence over Flynn and Flynn.
All three teams and their players demonstrated sportsmanship, positive attitude and a terrific heart.
