Joe Reselman reads a list of names of veterans who have passed on at a memorial garden dedication for a fellow VFW member in Bayswater on Memorial Day. The sun was shining, lifeguards were back at their posts and people joined family and friends for the first barbecues of the year all along the Peninsula - the unofficial start of summer 2006 had a memorable beginning for those living in the Rockaways.
In addition, all over the area people commemorated the Memorial Day holiday by attending events to honor those we have lost in the current and past wars.

A beachgoer on Rockaway Beach takes part in one of the favorite pastimes of the Memorial Day weekend - sunbathing. They're backkkkkk!!!! Lifeguards took their posts this weekend for the official start of the 2006 beach season. Fishermen by land and by sea spent Memorial Day trying to catch the big one. Record numbers of people hit the beach in New York this past weekend, and Rockaway Beach was no exception as The Wave's camera looks up from Beach 15 Street. |
