PS 114 Second Graders Perform For Parents

On Wednesday, May 24, an audience of parents, grandparents, relatives, friends and teachers were given a musical performance by the second graders of PS114. The students stood on the stage, before a backdrop of a magnificent Bald Eagle and American flag as well as red, white and blue bunting, and sang, beginning with "Proud to be an American" and ending with an Armed Forces Melody. A total of thirteen patriotic songs were sung. Each of the melodies was introduced by one of the students. A "Bill of Rights" segment had four students, one of whom held a mockup of the Bill of Rights while three others "signed" it. The "Three Great Leaders" melody was reinforced with images of great Americans including George Washington and Martin Luther King. The program was sponsored by the Rockaway Music and Arts Council and was overseen by RMAC's Myra Berger. The musical directors were two of the school's teachers, Mrs. Timpone and Mrs. Levy.
