Scholarship Opportunity At York College
Saying, "It is imperative that every student in New York State has the resources they need to excel," State Senator Malcolm Smith announced recently that scholarships are available for York College students.
"There are many students throughout the state who would be unable to attend college without the assistance of scholarship money. Every year my colleagues and I fight for our students by working to raise higher education funding and stop tuition increases. However, despite our best efforts, a college education still carries a high price tag. Scholarships, such as these, are vital to countless hard working students through the state," said Senator Smith.
The Queens lawmaker went on to say that the scholarships available to incoming freshman range from $750 to $2,000 and will be awarded to incoming freshman for Fall 2006 admission. Qualifying students include those with an academic average of at least 80 and a completion of 13 academic units, of which two must be in a foreign language (other than English). In addition, students must also take and pass all parts of the CUNY Skills Assessment Test on the first try, or meet the test exemptions.
"I commend York College for their dedication to providing a top-notch education to New York's students. Obtaining a college degree is an important step in creating a successful future, and I encourage every student who is eligible to apply for these scholarships," said Senator Smith.
