Nursing Home Resident Found Dead On Beach

By Brian Magoolaghan

A local nursing home resident was found dead along the shoreline in Belle Harbor early last Friday morning, according to authorities.

The body of Thomas Prior, 51, was discovered lying face down on Beach 135 Street at about 3:40 a.m. by a man who was out walking the beach.

Police and EMS responded to the beach, and Prior was removed to Peninsula Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A staff member at Gloria's Manor Home for Adults on Beach 119 Street confirmed for The Wave that Prior had lived there.

The New York Post reported that police sources said Prior was depressed and may have committed suicide. The staff at Gloria's Manor declined to comment on Prior's condition or mental state prior to his death.

The Medical Examiner's office said the cause of his death had not been determined and was pending further testing.
