Renovated And Refreshed, Kennedy's Welcomes Spring

Kennedy's Restaurant on the Bay in Breezy Point, all spruced up for the spring and summer seasons, was filled to capacity this weekend with adorable Holy Communicants and brides to be being "Showered" upon by their attendants and relatives.

While at a side table I spotted Bob O'Brien lunching with his daughter, Christine and husband, Bernie O'Connor and their two children, Bob's grandchildren, Alexis Nicole, 10 and Aiden, who will be 6 on May 6. Happy Birthday, Aiden. Around the bar were my corner bachelor buddies, Joe Kilbride, Bobby Keiley and Pat Salmon and behind the bar, my favorite bartender, Tom Coty. It has been weeks since I had been in Kennedy's and I must say it has a clean and sparkling look with subtle changes here and there. Certainly nice it has reopened and to see it flourishing again.

Several months ago Mary Norris stopped into Kennedy's. Mary, if you don't know, is a writer for the New Yorker Magazine and I met Mary on the Ferry from New York to Roxbury during the brief period there was Ferry transportation from New York and back a few years ago. Mary is a Rockaway Gal and a very successful writer for the popular and informative New Yorker magazine. During our Ferry ride, I had a little conversation with Mary and the first thing you know a very nice story appeared about me in the New Yorker Magazine. I can't thank Mary enough for putting me on the map. Google now carries the whole write-up and you would be surprised how many people have read it. I just wish to thank Mary Norris for the notoriety she gave me. When my name is now mentioned they always refer to the New Yorker. Thank you, thank you, thank you very much, Mary. Just Google me and you will see it.

In this day and age for two people to live together for 50 years in married bliss is an accomplishment. But, evidently Gene and Janet Neibel from Roxbury did so well that on May 5, their wedding anniversary, they will be renewing their vows in the Little Church of the West in Las Vegas with family and friends around them, followed by a reception at the Tomb of Kings at the Excalibur Hotel. Sounds like a great time. Congratulations to Gene and Janet Neibel on your 50 Wedding Anniversary! May you meet your challenges for the next fifty with good health, grace and increased love for one another. They are one of the nicest people on the Peninsula.

On this subject of weddings, there was a Wedding Salon Showcase and Auction at Gotham Hall this week. Anything and everything for the bride and prospective marriages was there at your fingertips, from gowns to venues to home furnishings, all in one place. The next Wedding Salon will be held in Miami on November 20.

Happy Birthday to Helene Danzilo on May 12. Helen and Peter Danzilo are now in Las Vegas, but will head to Oxford Shores in California to spend a few days with their daughter, Christine and then back to Vegas and will return to Breezy Point on May 25. Helene and Peter are very proud of Peter's nephew, Juan Lewis, who won a full scholarship to Loyola University.

Kathy Judge and family received a miracle for their little grandson, Andrew John, who had open-heart surgery that was a success. She is so thankful to all

The Chelsea Art Museum was filled with young people for the Tickled Pink Benefit to fight breast cancer through the Susan Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. They held an auction and fashion show and it was most gratifying to see how dedicated these young people are to the cause of Breast Cancer.

The beautiful expansion and renovation of the Morgan Library, closed for three years, has reopened. The $106 million dollar building project was designed by Ritzier Prize-winning architect Reno Piano and it is truly magnificent. In addition to expanded exhibition space, the project includes a dramatic new entrance on Madison Avenue, a spacious central four story court that serves as a gathering place, a new performance hall, a naturally-lit reading room and two new dinning rooms. The Masterworks from the Morgan features some 300 of the greatest objects in the collections. The Morgan Library

is really something to see. Spend the day there and enjoy.
