Sanders Brings Free Job Training To Rockaway

Councilman James Sanders, Jr., along with the NYC Central Labor Council and the Consortium for Worker Education (CWE), will host a press conference in May 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Hammel Houses Workers Service Center, 81-14 Rockaway Beach Boulevard, to announce a job and career training program.

Over the last six months, almost 200 of Sanders' constituents have taken advantage of work preparation, computer literacy and advanced courses, English as a second language, GED, citizenship and adult basic education courses, funded by Councilman Sanders, according to the CWE.

UFT teachers instruct all of the courses. Students who have completed the course received their certification certificates that reflect their particular training. There are currently three Worker Service Centers operating at the following locations: +57-10 Beach Channel Drive. +Rockaway Development and Revitalization Corporation, 369 Beach 56 Street in Arverne.+Hammel Houses, 81-14 Rockaway Beach Boulevard.

"It brings me great joy to provide education and employment opportunities to the people of the Rockaways. Since education is a never-ending process, it is never too late to learn or educate yourself. Therefore, I'm urging all those who feel as if there is no hope to take advantage of these opportunities. We must prepare for the employment opportunities coming to our neighborhood," said Councilman Sanders.
