Artist Alliance Kidsplash! 2006

The Rockaway Artists Alliance (RAA) and the NYC Department of Education Region 5 Learning Support Center present Kidsplash! 2006, a comprehensive showcase of work from young artists all over the area. Representing the best student-created artwork produced in classrooms throughout the year, Kidsplash! 2006 features two-dimensional work in painting, drawing, and a host of other media, and takes place at the Rockaway Center for the Arts (RoCA) studio 7 Gallery at Fort Tilden. The show will be open to all from Saturday, May 13 through Sunday, May 28. A reception with refreshments, entertainment and many of the artists will be held on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 14 from 1-4 p.m.

Kidsplash! 2006 has generated a great deal of excitement as submissions have come in from schools all over Region 5, which includes School Districts 19, 23 and 27 in Brooklyn and southern Queens.

All student artwork was evaluated on technical proficiency, originality and individuality. Talent and technique were put to the test as young artists entered their first juried art show. All work will be carefully matted, mounted and hung in the Rockaway Artists Alliance galleries. For many this will be their first "professional" exhibition.

Among those whose dedication brought Kidsplash! 2006 to life, teachers JoAnne Ellie and Norma Allende were instrumental in the project. Allende herself is an accomplished sculptor and stained glass artist. She described the students, teachers and administrators as being "very excited" about the upcoming show and sees this as just the beginning of a yearly event. The Region 5 Educational Support Center and the Rockaway Artists Alliance invite one and all to share the excitement of a new generation of artists.

The RAA and NYC Department of Education Region 5 Learning Support Center Kidsplash 2006 is presented in partnership with the National Park Service/Gateway National Recreation Area. Gallery hours are Saturday, 12-4 p.m. and Sunday, 1-4 p.m. and by appointment. For more information call (718) 474-0861, email rockart116@ aol.com or visit www.rockawayartistsalliance.org.
